Just because we live in the city of Chicago, doesn’t mean we can’t prepare for the rugged terrain of the Grand Canyon! Â A.J. and I were determined to put all our gear on and attempt a trial run. Â We geared up with breakaway pants on, wicking shirts and socks, filled camelbacks to the brim in our sweet collapsable backpacks, and trekked out along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Â We hiked for over an hour, covering a route that included the wind wipping across the lake, and even a very steep incline hill (possibly the only one around for miles). Â Our goal was distance, especially to simulate the hike through the canyon with our weighted gear. Â The hike, only 3.5 miles was a simple one, but we can only imagine what 26 miles will do to us…not to mention the incline/decline!
